NeuralIQ Announces the Q5 Real-Time Intrusion Forensics System (IFS)
SANTA MONICA, CA — May 20, 2007 — NeuralIQ, Inc., an innovator in high-interaction honeynet technology, today announced that their flagship network security appliance, the NeuralIQ Q5, will begin shipping in late June. Built on a strategy of deception, observation, and efficient forensic analysis, the Q5 network security appliance combines high-interaction virtual honeynet technology, sophisticated AI, and a powerful yet intuitive Adobe® Flash®-based interface to drive comprehensive intrusion intelligence into the real-time realm.
“Predicting dynamic cyber security threats with static solutions is an unsustainable practice,” says Stan Eramia, CEO of NeuralIQ. “The Q5 allows security infrastructures to adapt to new and undefined attacks by enabling business and government alike to garner real-time, online forensic intelligence and signature generation.”
Each Q5 is a highly modular system consisting of two blade server components: an iQCerebrum and two iQCortex units. The Q5 is powered by NeuralOS, a custom, Linux-based operating system. The iQCortex supports virtualization of honeynet decoys and contains the Sentinel surveillance module, while the iQCerebrum is a dedicated processing unit that hosts a powerful relational database, an advanced-AI signature generation engine, and NeuralUI, an advanced visualization interface.
Deceive
Rooted in honeypot design, the Q5 employs state-of-the-art virtualization technology to trick attackers into providing precisely the data administrators need to thwart them. Virtualized decoys can be set up to impersonate multiple fully-functional Windows, Linux, Solaris, and BSD-based servers running real-world applications and services. Since there is no monitoring software or rootkits installed on the decoys, they are completely indistinguishable from a production network. Thus, an intruder is lured into engaging the network on the customers’ terms, allowing them to turn the adversary’s assets to their advantage.
Observe
The Q5 captures all operating system activity from a position of complete stealth. Surveillance is accomplished by Sentinel, a proprietary virtual-machine–based rootkit module that delivers instruction-level attack information from behind the scenes within the hypervisor of our NeuralOS operating system. Sentinel can also clean or reset compromised decoys immediately, on demand, and automatically, preventing attackers from using the honeynet to stage further attacks.
Adapt
Using advanced artificial intelligence, iQCerebrum both identifies and learns from attack activity, and it generates attack signatures in real time. These signatures are then used to populate an attack-pattern database that administrators have ready access to via our powerful interface, NeuralUI. Worlds of forensic data can be visually explored and quickly analyzed in myriad ways. Administrators use this customized information to tune the Q5’s behavior and apply updates to existing intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS) at the press of a button.
Easily integrated into existing IDS/IPS systems from all major vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, Internet Security Systems, Symantec, Enterasys, Sourcefire, Snort Open Source) and offering flexible, zero-footprint deployment options, the iQCerebrum and iQCortex comprise the brains that supply the superior intelligence and threat analysis customers need to safeguard their networks.
“We’re excited to be contributing to the evolution of security infrastructure,” says Mr. Eramia. “We’ve moved beyond static solutions, providing invaluable forensic security intelligence in real time. Our goal is to tip the balance of power in favor of network security professionals.”
